Fathom Safety Pilot Ladder Management Service

Managing a fleets pilot ladders can be a tricky process. If left to the ships crew to organise it can lead to incorrect, overpriced or poor quality pilot ladders being sourced. If left for the ship management to organise it can time consuming, at times confusing and difficult to coordinate getting the right ladder to the correct port at the right time.

Fathom Safety can take the stress out of pilot ladder management with our ‘end to end’ service. Join a growing list of premier shipping companies that entrust Fathom Safety with their fleet’s pilot ladders from provision to maintenance and replacement. Our cutting edge pilot ladder management software keeps track of each ladder, it’s age, usage level, maintenance, inspection and we proactively manage the replacement of ladders to ensure every vessel has 3 compliant pilot ladders.

At the commencement of contract the experts at Fathom Safety will conduct a remote audit of each vessel, to ensure the ship is capable of rigging a compliant pilot ladder and precisely what type of ladder each ship requires. We produce a report for each vessel with any changes required indicating if these are minor or major compliance issues.

We record the details of pilot ladders on board each vessel along with serial numbers, age and a copy of the certificate. All of the data is stored on our system along with a crew list for each vessel indicating the training record for each member of crew. This data is then made available to company superusers who can check at any point details of the ladders and crew through a simple visual interface.

We record each and every use of the ladders along with pre and post checks made as well as periodic inspections as per ISO 799

When the ladder reaches 24 months we begin the process of co-ordinating with the vessel to identify the best window for replacement to ensure this is done prior to the 30 month anniversary of the ladder.
We exclusively supply PTR Holland ladders. These premium ISO 799 ladders are, in our opinion, the best on the market and will ensure a long and durable life when maintained and inspected as per our training.

Thanks to our close relationship with PTR and our auditing process we ensure the ship only gets the ladder they need. By ensuring vessels only get what they need we generate savings on unnecessary steps, spreaders, rope and shipping costs.

In our experience we are saving fleets around $750 per ship per year by ensuring the ship only gets the ladder it needs.

On top of our fantastic management service fleets also benefit from a number of additional benefits including

•    A 24 hour emergency hotline to ensure if the ship should ever experience pilot ladder issues we can work to resolve these to prevent or minimise disruption and delays.
•    A non-emergency pilot ladder query email address with a 6 hour turnaround.
•    Quarterly webinars for crew and management staff to discuss pilot ladder developments, incidents and regulatory changes. It’s a great way to share best practice and for asking any burning questions.

The 24 hour hotline alone has prevented operators losing hundreds of thousands of dollars of revenue by preventing delays. We can actively work with pilot associations, port operators and harbour authorities to quickly resolve issues and prevent costly delays.

The Fathom Safety end-to-end pilot ladder management service improves safety, guarantees compliance, saves operators money, prevents delays and reduces PSC inspections connected with non-compliant pilot ladder transfer arrangements.
